Tarapaya Hotsprings (Half day tour)
Swimming in volcano crater
Tarapaya is an ancient bathing place that dates back to Inca times. According to oral history, it was a favourite rest stop for the last Inca, Huayna Kapac. Apparently he visited the baths during his travels to the nearby Mine of Porco, from where the Incas obtained much of their silver.
The tour leaves from your hotel in Potosi and you will be driven the 25km from Potosi to the Tarapaya Lagoon by private transport.
We will spend approximately two hours at the Thermal Baths, allowing time to swim, just laze around enjoying the beautiful colours of the landscape or explore the surroundings.
Today the principal Crater Lake, from which there is a beautiful vista of the down valley and the surrounding mountains, functions as a public bathing area.

There are also private pools with a changing area further down, entrance. The temperature of the pools is on average 30 degrees centigrade.
Tarapaya is famous for its medicinal properties and is very popular with “Potosinos”, especially on the weekends.
